Westwood Hills Park

When dreaming of Napa, most people imagine rolling hills of vineyards. You’ll catch sight of those, as well as a panoramic view over the City of Napa, and the bonus of a tree swing! For this park, you can choose you own adventure, but do so at your own risk. When we arrived there was no map at the trailhead and the trails are not marked. I recommend either utilizing the AllTrails “navigate” feature (free) for the park here or have someone with a navigation device.

Why we love it: If you follow the AllTrails navigation feature, just about 0.7 miles into the hike, you get to a tree swing! You make your way up and down through meadows and and oak trees to your first viewpoint, overlooking the hills and a vineyard. Later, you hike along the perimeter of the park with a vineyard on the other side of the fence, and then come to the panoramic view.

For the Young Ones (0-10): A swing (!), a tiny creek to jump over, changes in elevation, and plenty of benches to stop at and snack were quite exciting for our 3 year-old. We didn’t follow the AllTrails map after the panoramic view, and she was a bit nervous about the steep narrow path we took to go west back to the main trail.

For the Big Kids (10+): Recognizing the smell of the eucalyptus trees (or learning it), a variety of terrain, the challenge of steep sections and stairs, plus great views kept it interesting and fun for Big Kiddo.

Keep in Mind:

  • After rains, much of this park is muddy and there’s a high likelihood of slipping.
  • The trails are really not marked. Don’t try to rely on your memory and use a device or AllTrails app.

Around the Area: It’s Napa Valley! To feel like a local at an affordable price point, go to Butter Cream Bakery and Diner, less than ten minutes away. I love their biscuits and gravy and their Napa Valley Wine Cake!

Difficulty Level: Easy-Moderate
